i choose to work on problems that teach me or work with people who teach me, sometimes both. i studied physics and molecular biology at mipt and graduated with honors. after bachelor's i had a short academic stint at duke university, then moved to silicon valley. earlier in life i had solved lots of olympiad math problems.
